Banbury Historical Society was founded in 1958 by a group of local historians to encourage research into the local history of Banbury town and its hinterland.

Our annual programme of activities runs from September to July, with lectures from September through to Easter and then a varied programme of outings and events in the summer. We meet for the lectures at 7.30 pm on the second Thursday of each month in the Education room of Banbury Museum. (Entrance from Spiceball Park Road, OX16 2PQ). Members and visitors are made very welcome at our meetings.

Banbury Historical Society has been publishing research for over 50 years in its Journal, "Cake & Cockhorse".  Big houses, Banbury streets, village characters and stories, local industries and shops, mills, churches, families and much more:  all have provided material for articles written by all sorts of people and about every period. (The Archive of Cake & Cockhorse is searchable HERE).  New material is very welcome.  

The society also publishes a series of Records Volumes:  some of these are transcriptions of records from the past, such as churchwardens’ accounts or diaries, with an explanatory introduction, and some use many sources to write a particular history, such as the history of Aynho.
